Pipcorn was born in 2012 when co-founder Jeff Martin helped his sister, Jen (co-founder), move apartments. With everything packed up except a bag of tiny heirloom popcorn kernels that Jen found in the Chicago health food store where she worked, they popped batch after batch and thought it was the most delicious popcorn they'd ever had! They liked it so much that they tracked down the Indiana farmer who grew it from his family's heirloom seed stock.
They knew they had found the most fantastic heirloom popcorn kernels around after getting ahold of the heirloom seeds. They tasted better than any popcorn they've ever had; they were crunchy, light and tasted like real corn! So they decided to pop 'em and name them Pip! Together with Jeff's wife, Teresa, they created a new company, Pipsnacks™ and began selling in outdoor New York markets using hand-stamped bags and heirloom popcorn popped in their mom's spaghetti pot. Shortly after, Oprah found Pipcorn and picked it as one of her favourite things four times!
The company was then pitched on ABC's Shark Tank and landed them a deal with Barbara Corcoran. Soon after, Pipcorn was rolled out nationally! Wanting to expand their product line, the founders headed out to Death Valley to pop popcorn using the sun and created three new flavours! Years later, the founders decided their heirloom popcorn needed some company and introduced Heirloom Cheese Balls, Heirloom Corn Dippers and soon Heirloom Crackers!
Pipcorn is proud to be a woman-owned, minority-owned, family business, and is looking forward to helping you become Heirloom's biggest fans!
