Vegan, High-Protein

Ingredients:

450 g extra firm tofu

1 vegan stock cube if available

4 tablespoons boiling water

2 tablespoons light brown sugar

1 tablespoon tomato puree

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon paprika

2 tablespoons Organika Coconut Sauce

1 teaspoon vegan Worcestershire sauce

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

½ teaspoon fine sea salt

Vegetable oil for cooking

Directions:

1. Drain and slice the tofu into 4 steak-sized pieces. Place the tofu steaks on a baking tray.

2. In a small bowl, whisk together the vegan stock cube, boiling water, and light brown sugar.

3. Add the remaining ingredients and whisk again.

4. Pour the marinade over the tofu steaks and use a pastry brush to make sure each steak is coated on all sides. (Optional) Cover the tofu steaks with a lid and leave to marinate in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

5. When you’re ready to cook, heat a grill or frying pan over medium heat until very hot. Add vegetable oil (or olive oil) to the grill once hot.

6. Fry the tofu steaks, two at a time, for around 3-4 minutes on each side, basting with more marinade as needed.

7. Once nicely browned and glossy on both sides, serve with rice and any additional sauce you like!
