Spicy Fried Onion Sweet Chili Crispy Tofu

Lightly fried then tossed with Queens Premium Gluten-Free Crispy Onions and coated in sweet chili sauce - this tofu is pillowy on the inside and layered with crunch on the outside! Toss in your favourite sweet chili sauce and serve over rice for a sweet and satisfying weekday meal.

Serves: 4

Ingredients:

1-350g package of extra firm tofu

½ cup gluten-free flour

1 tablespoon cornstarch

½ teaspoon garlic powder 

½ teaspoon onion powder 

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt 

½  cup water

Avocado Oil, for frying

½ cup Queens Premium Gluten-Free Crispy Onions

½ cup sweet chili sauce 

2 green onions, thinly sliced, for serving 

 

Directions:

1. Cut the tofu into large cubes, and set aside on a paper towel to absorb any moisture.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well, then slowly incorporate the water forming a thick batter. 

3. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add ¼ inch of avocado oil. 

4. Make sure the tofu pieces are very dry, then dip the tofu into the batter, coating on all sides. 

5. When the oil reaches 350℉, carefully add the tofu pieces to the hot oil. Fry on all sides until golden brown and then set on paper towels to absorb excess oil. 

6. Place the tofu in a bowl and add the Queens Premium Gluten-Free Crispy Onions and the sweet chili sauce of your choice. Toss together. Serve over rice and garnish with green onion.
